New England Meet 2014...Long Island

     The 2014 New England Meet was sponsored by the Long Island club members, and a great job they did!
     The host hotel was the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge, a great venue.
     The tour never got more tha 6 or 7 miles from the hotel, but covered 30 miles of scenic wandering roads.  There were beatiful milloin dollar plus homes, seashore, beaches, and woodland trails.  Most of it perfect "Model A roads".
     Most Little Rhody attendees took the ferry from New London to Orient Point, then back roads almost all the way to the hotel, a scenic route in itself.
     The weather cooperated as well, making this one of the best New England meets yet...but then I say that every year.
     Charlie Howards 31 slant window blindback took a best of show.  Considering there were about 200 "A's" there, not bad.

Archie Project Update Sept 17, 2014

This is week 13 on the project ...

Bob had built the truck body for Archie since the last session.  John Mennucci painted the frame with Rustoleum Black paint with gusto.  The floor board was strengthened  with additional wood by Charlie and Bob.  A gas leak was discovered along the inside firewall.  This was investigated and found to be due to a connection at the "bowl".  As usual, Charlie was able to come up with a replacement bowl!  Dennis and Ray  were able to do the replacement, and the connection was tightened up by John. The body was lifted off Bob's truck and gingerly placed onto the chassis - then bolted down.  Archie would not start.  A problem with the fuse holder was temporarily solved by shorting it with a nail.  Then Dennis and Al Bowder poured in "just a half cup of gas" to see if the gas leak problem was solved.  Bob took off in Archie to show off the new look to the women while the guys wondered if he would run out of gas....he didn't!  Sue shared with us that she was able to independently change her oil on her Model A at home!  The dinner was great - Pizza was supplemented by a tossed salad, and delicious marinated mushrooms.  Desserts included another apple pie made by Ray, a delicious sourcreme cinnamon cake, a fruited cheesecake ring, and whoopie pies.

Archie Project week 13, Sept 17, 2014 -Pictures

Archie Project Week 12 Sept 3, 2014 Update

This is week 12 on the project
 During the past week ,  Ray Pagliarini fabricated an intricate piece to finish putting the hood into place - copying a piece to match one from his Model A.  Bob made some special parts to fit on the mangled old frame so new windshield mounts could be placed. He also drew up plans for building  a frame and truck body using angle iron and wood.  Before too long, Charlie and Ray had the hood going on.  John M was working on making the new pieces to support the windshield frame line up with the body.   Dennis was making a windshield mounting frame using torches and bending steel.  Gene, Ray, Al Bowder and Charlie as well as Sue all worked to get the angle iron frame cut to length and fastened to the body.  Ray and Gene went to work getting the rust off the framework, and Bob painted the angle iron.  The wood parts were cut to measure with some difficulty related to having to "make" a fence to run the saw along to assure straight cuts.  At the end of the session, the body frame was on Archie, the windshield is almost complete, the hood is on, and it was getting dark.
  Dinner was so amazing, the women are starting to talk about putting together  an Archie cookbook!
  Sandy Bowder was able to be with the group, and all the ladies were helping Pat out with preparations since she suffered a broken finger during the past day or so.
  Rosalie P brought veal with mushrooms and peppers, Dawn Mennucci brought eggplant in sauce, & Ruthi  brought  pasta & chicken.  Edie made a wonderful salad, Pat made her special bread and provided condiments.
As always we had desserts "galore" to enjoy...

Archie Project Pictures Sept 3, 2014

Archie Project- week 11 - August 31, 2014 Update

This is week 11 on the project  - a week's delay occurred when a prime member had a health problem last week, but onward and upward this week!  John and Gene tackled the wiring and did a great job demonstrated by working lights, horn and installation of the dashboard controls by the end of the session.  The long angle irons supplied by Charlie were cut to length by Bob by grinder and Ray by hacksaw!  The seats were installed after adjusting the floorboards and testing a support board that was donated by Franklin and  adjusted by Al Silvia and Al Bowder. It did not work out, but other modifications were made.  Bob had installed adjusters on the seats.  The levers on those mechanisms were bent for safety and comfort by Dennis and Charlie. The angle iron pieces were bolted to the frame to become the base for the truck body that is coming soon.   The floorboard was cut to fit the seats and bolted to the new framework.   At the end of the session, Dennis and Bob drove the car around the yard with lights on and signaling the ladies with the horn so they knew it was time for dinner!  The food was, as always, welcome and wonderful!  Sandwiches were made by Ruth along with potato salad provided by Dawn Mennucci. Pat made coleslaw;  Evie provided a cold cut platter and rolls/bread were abundant.  Chips, pickles, condiments for making sandwiches and a huge assortment of desserts were brought by Rosalie, Dennis, Sandy Bowder, &  Janice Rousseau.  Another  WOW meal!    Check out the pictures below......
