The New Meeting Place

After a very long time at the Rocky Hill Grange, Little Rhody Model A Club has a “new venue”.  Bob Osborne spear-headed a group to look for a new place to have our meetings.  Sparky Pakuris and Domenic Mosca participated.  A few places were considered.  Sparky’s suggestion to look at the place where his Model T Club has met for years led to consulting with George Taber.  George took Bob through the Cornerstone of Faith United Methodist Church in Coventry.  The church’s meeting facility looked like a great place.  FYI, George is on the board at the church and also a member of our club and the Model T club.  The club approved the move. Bob Osborne and Al Bowder arranged to move the cabinets with our possessions to the Church.  Our first meeting was held there on January 13, 2019. Our thanks to Mary Ouellette and Barbara Budziak for great refreshments for this first meeting!

2018 Christmas Party – December 1, 2018

Thanksgiving came early this year, it seemed –and our December first Christmas Party seemed to come right behind it!  The Moscas and their elves were busy decorating the hall at Richard’s Pub early for our 2 pm “bonanza celebration”.  Thirty-six members of the Little Rhody Model A Club came together for the festivities.  Susan outdid herself with adorable animated centerpieces & table decorations, and made sure we all arrived with “bells on” as she handed out glittering bell necklaces for everyone.  We enjoyed cheese and crackers and veggies with dips prior to a served salad course and a really nice buffet dinner, coffee and dessert.  Our annual awards were handed out by Dawn Mennucci. Sue and Domenic Mosca were selected for Carole Hathaway Burns award and Ken Trudel was given the Herbert R. Allen award.  Our favorite Santa came in setting off “sparks” with a “bag” of special things which Sue Mosca handed out to all the members.  Sue then led us off through a game of passing the gifts to the left or right around the table by following her interesting story directions!  A lot of laughs!  The members came through with lots of donations to Toys for Tots, whisked away by Dominic at the end of the celebration to Cardi’s along with the animated centerpieces.  See you all next year!

2018 VETERAN’S DAY PARADE

This year’s parade was on the 12^th of November.  We had 5 cars participating in the route which started at Wilson Park in North Kingstown and wound through Wickford Village and on to the High School.  We were surprised when Senator Whitehouse stopped to chat with us.  He seemed quite interested in the mechanics of driving the old cars!  We must have done a good job prepping for this last run of the season – no one broke down, no flat tires!  The crowd seemed bigger than usual this year. The Osbornes, Bowders and Pagliarinis went out to lunch at Greggs after the parade.  Great weather, great friends, a nice day!

2018 “CHICKEN RUN” AT WRIGHT’S FARM

The yearly tradition lived on with the “run” to Wright’s Chicken Farm on November 4^th.  Several club members met at the West Greenwich Town Hall and meandered as a group all the way up Victory Highway to the restaurant.  The weather was cool and clear and fall foliage colors were apparent.  The turnout was great from many regional clubs, and there were beautiful cars to view in the parking lot.  Thanks to the Minutemen, once again!

LITTLE RHODY’S ANNUAL POTLUCK- 2018

Little Rhody Model A Club “usually” has it’s potluck in April.  The weather in the past couple years has caused last minute cancellations – annoying for those who cooked up food in advance! This year, we moved the special event to October!  It turned out that it was a good day and as “usual” the food was great and the décor went from St. Patrick’s green to Fall Harvest golds. Applause and Kudos to all the cooks, and the coordinator, Sue Mosca.

2018 Newport Columbus Day Parade

We had a good sized group collect for the Columbus Day Parade on October 8th this year.  We gathered at the Park & Ride at Route 1A and 138 at 8:30.  As luck would have it – Bob Osborne was seen to have a flat tire – a few AAAAOOOGAAAs from the group made him stop to take a look.  John Mennucci had a handy foot pump and got the tire up enough to get over to Jamestown. Al and Sandy Bowder hosted a wonderful “coffee and” at their home on Jamestown. Fun, fellowship and conversation - and Bob got to change the tire and use their compressor to blow up the spare to spec!  The weather was cloudy with occasional drizzle, but the parade went well.  We followed up with a nice lunch at Tickets, a local Bar and Grille.
