The Little Rhody 2019 Dust Off on April 27th

The Tour was planned by Bob and Evie O as a tour through farmlands in memory of Eleanora Paolantonio. Although the weather forecast said it would be sunny after 7 AM, it turned out cloudy with a few periods of sprinkles through the day. Still, it was clear enough to enjoy the scenery along the country roads in Windham County, Connecticut. We gathered at “the Dunk” at routes 6A and 102 in RI at about 10:30 AM. After a meet and greet, the group of twelve Model A’s and three “moderns” took off along route 101 into Connecticut. At the first stop (the unavoidable PIT Stop), we lost a couple of the members who missed a turn. High tech cell phone contacts made it possible to catch up with them in Pomfret! The tour was about 43 miles all told. Dottie Cece was amazed that we went by her childhood home, not once but twice on the ride! The scenery was mostly of spring-green farmland and vistas across hills and valleys. Lunch was at the Black Dog Bar and Grille at about 1 PM – Good food! The only car problem that required a quick stop and fix was an unstoppable horn on Bob Osborne’s ’29 Coupe!

March 17th 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Mary Ouellette, a new member of the club, enthusiastically championed a parade venture in West Warwick on St. Patrick’s Day. The club had four cars in the parade. Mary was thrilled to be able to distribute copies of the Pawtuxet Valley Times featuring a picture of she and Ed with their Model A on the front page related to the parade! The weather was sunny and cool, a nice day for the parade! We were greeted by large crowds of people of all ages along the route. Mary had arranged participation in a luncheon at the Elk’s Club after the parade. Entertainment was provided by Irish Dancers and Bagpipe and Drum Players.

The Little Rhody Model A Club Meeting March 10, 2019

The weather was cold and wet with a promise of snow/icy conditions later in the day. Attendance was affected by this nastiness! The highlight of the meeting was a presentation by our Program Chairman, Moe Rousseau. Evie Osborne had been offered some rust removal products to try by WORKSHOP HERO. Moe used the product samples on several rusty items and was pleased with the results. A soak with a mixture of the product and water is designed to remove rust within 18 hours. He did the soak for about 8 hours with very good results. The product is water soluble, non-toxic to skin, and does not require using gloves. The gel type product was not as effective, had to be brushed on an item and then wrapped with plastic wrap and timed out. It did require gloves, and the results on the items he used were less than stellar. Discussion followed the presentation, pictures of before rust and actual items that were rust free were sent around the room. Members were invited to look at the products and take some gel samples to try. The demo product is available at Home Depot and is very reasonable at about $20 to mix up 4 gallons. Upcoming events include the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in West Warwick on March 17^th, and the DUST OFF Tour on April 27^th.

Our February Meeting on 2/10/19

We had a lot of people come out for the February meeting of Little Rhody! The winter meeting schedule at 2 PM was welcomed, and the weather cooperated. We all remembered a couple years ago when all three winter meetings had to be cancelled due to snow! We discussed the St. Patrick’s Day parade in West Warwick, something we have not done as a club in many years. We had planned on rehab-ing the library which had “taken a tumble” in the move to the new venue – but - Lo and Behold! John Budziak and George Taber got together and set up the cabinet and it looks great. So we had a bit more time to socialize and enjoy the fine goodies that Ruth Andre and Rosalie Pagliarini set up (including, of course, Ray’s famous apple pie!) The March meeting will be held at the 2 PM time this year. The Dust Off Tour is right around the corner!!!

The New Meeting Place

After a very long time at the Rocky Hill Grange, Little Rhody Model A Club has a “new venue”. Bob Osborne spear-headed a group to look for a new place to have our meetings. Sparky Pakuris and Domenic Mosca participated. A few places were considered. Sparky’s suggestion to look at the place where his Model T Club has met for years led to consulting with George Taber. George took Bob through the Cornerstone of Faith United Methodist Church in Coventry. The church’s meeting facility looked like a great place. FYI, George is on the board at the church and also a member of our club and the Model T club. The club approved the move. Bob Osborne and Al Bowder arranged to move the cabinets with our possessions to the Church. Our first meeting was held there on January 13, 2019. Our thanks to Mary Ouellette and Barbara Budziak for great refreshments for this first meeting!

2018 Christmas Party – December 1, 2018

Thanksgiving came early this year, it seemed –and our December first Christmas Party seemed to come right behind it! The Moscas and their elves were busy decorating the hall at Richard’s Pub early for our 2 pm “bonanza celebration”. Thirty-six members of the Little Rhody Model A Club came together for the festivities. Susan outdid herself with adorable animated centerpieces & table decorations, and made sure we all arrived with “bells on” as she handed out glittering bell necklaces for everyone. We enjoyed cheese and crackers and veggies with dips prior to a served salad course and a really nice buffet dinner, coffee and dessert. Our annual awards were handed out by Dawn Mennucci. Sue and Domenic Mosca were selected for Carole Hathaway Burns award and Ken Trudel was given the Herbert R. Allen award. Our favorite Santa came in setting off “sparks” with a “bag” of special things which Sue Mosca handed out to all the members. Sue then led us off through a game of passing the gifts to the left or right around the table by following her interesting story directions! A lot of laughs! The members came through with lots of donations to Toys for Tots, whisked away by Dominic at the end of the celebration to Cardi’s along with the animated centerpieces. See you all next year!
