NOVEMBER 5, 2023 - THE ANNUAL CHICKEN RUN

 

We had a nice turn out for the annual Chicken Run at Wrights Farm this year.  We joined several other antique car clubs at the restaurant at about 11:30.  Unlike many years in the past – the weather was very co-operative. Sunny, breezy and mild!  The meal, as always was served family style, all you can eat – and we did!  Before and after the meal we got to tour the parking lot and kibbitz with old friends from other clubs and enjoy the car show!

OCTOBER 15, 2023 MEETING

This meeting took place on a splendid fall day!  At Marie Penna’s suggestion, we had a potluck luncheon.  The food was abundant and scrumptious, as always, when we have a potluck event!  Dottie Cece made sure that we had fall appropriate decorative paper goods and tablecloths!  Dennis and Dean made sure we had enough soft drinks available with ice.  And as usual, John Mennucci made coffee and as a special treat for all, brought a beautiful platter of ham!  Marie also made a super basket with all kinds of items inside for both the men and women in the club to raffle off.  The proceeds will assist in off setting the Christmas party expenses.  Ticket sales were brisk!  In the end, Evie won the basket.  Christmas party details were discussed along with a Veteran’s Day pilgrimage to the Veterans Cemetery, and a “Chicken Run” in November.

September 10, 2023 -  Little Rhody Meeting

On this rainy, warm, humid day Little Rhody Model A Club had it’s September get together.  Attendance was good!  After a regular business meeting, refreshments brought by Bob Douquette and Evie Osborne were enjoyed as we awaited the planned presentation.  In response to questions asked during their last presentation, Dean Travis and Dennis Allsop prepared a program about adjusting the third brush to maximize your generator charging for night time driving.  As advertised, the presentation started with a short U-Tube video and a demonstration using a real hands on generator.  This “generated” several comments and questions from members who work on their own cars all the time.

July 9, 2023 Little Rhody’s Summer Picnic

On July 9th, we got together at the church we usually go to for our meetings for a potluck picnic affair! Though the weather was hot and a little steamy, the rain held off. Dean and Dennis picked up a grill from John and Dawn and brought it to the site. John and Dawn purchased the hot dogs and hamburgers and a cake and were transported to the church by Ken and Carol. Evie brought paper goods and cutlery along with condiments. The assortment of food items brought included Marguerite’s pulled pork and her signature deviled eggs, Dawn brought baked beans and potato salad. Other items included fruit salad, crudités with assorted cheeses and veggies, fruit salad, & a huge assortment of desserts. Dennis came loaded with drinks and ice in coolers. Dean and Dennis with John were the grill masters and Ken made sure things stayed organized at the food tables. The turnout was terrific! Dean and Dennis provided the long awaited program utilizing a U-Tube video, handouts and hands on equipment to discuss carburetors and timing. A short trivia game was hosted by Carol Trudel involving Model A Tech tips and genre from the 1920s and 30s. A very nice day!

 MAY 6, 2023 DUST OFF TOUR

Our scheduled dust off tour was cancelled due to the inclement weather on April 29^th.  BUT, the weather on the 6^th of May was superb.  Sunny, bright, slight breezes, and just right!  We met at Richard’s Pub around 10 am.  Despite the week delay, we had a good turnout.  Bob Osborne handed out maps and directions, and we were off and running!  We toured through the beautiful Rhode Island countryside and arrived a bit early at the Captain Jacks restaurant. So what else?  We continued a tour of the beach neighborhoods and stopped at the East Matunuck State Beach for about a half hour, biding our time and enjoying the sea breezes.  We arrived at Captain Jacks about 11:30, and 16 of us were seated and served lunch off the menu.  The meal was very good, atmosphere was beachy, and service was friendly and timely.  A really nice day!

MARCH 12, 2023 MEETING

We had a good turnout at this meeting on a cloudy late winter day. At the general meeting business was taken care of as usual with the addition of the presentation of the new club roster. The new Roster was the work of John and Dawn Mennucci along with checking facts with the present data base through Evie Osborne and the Bowders. Members present were able to check the roster for errors prior to finalizing it for printing. The Dust Off Tour – hampered for the past three years by COVID ISSUES was set for April 29th by Vice President Bob Osborne. Refreshments were stellar, as usual provided by Sandy B. and Marguerite P. Ken Trudel announced that after three years of seeking a RI legislative change in the Department of Transportion/Department of Motor Vehicles management of Rhode Island’s management of Antique license plates, a bill was passed. He explained the process for getting to keep your old style plates on our cars. Dennis Allsop did a well received presentation of the “Cut Out” – a magnetically controlled switch that provides a path for current to flow from the generator to the battery. A very complete handout supplemented his talk. The complexities of this system and parts supply issues were a hot topic for discussion.

FEBRUARY 12, 2023 MEETING

It was nice to get together in February this year. It seems as though the weather and COVID have wreaked havoc on winter meetings for too long! We had a nice and short business meeting including a summary report of the financials for the past year. We were able to thank all those who have volunteered their services, their time, financial and material support for the club’s activities, those refreshments and, of course, Dennis for his programs! The possibility of doing a June Tour to Narragansett was discussed.
