2019 Columbus Day Parade

The Holiday fell on October 14th this year.  The day started damp and dreary but unfolded into a nice breezy fall day.  The participants arrived at the Bowder’s home for “Coffee AND” around 9 o’clock.  Off to the parade we went around 11 AM.  The Bowders, the  Mennuccis, the Osbornes and Don McNeil met up with the Mendonca’s at the line up in Newport.  The parade attendance was hampered somewhat by the gray skies, but we enjoyed the event as usual, waving at the crowd.  Afterwards, we all went to lunch at the TICKETS restaurant for the third year in a row!  Nice food and great company!

The September Harvest Tour

Bob Osborne invited members to join in a tour of orchards and farms in Central Rhode Island on September 21st .  Six people/4 Model A s arrived at Orchard Farm School to start the tour at one o’clock.  The weather was perfect – a sunny, breezy early fall day!  We visited four orchard Farms starting with Knights arm.   We started out towards the field where people were picking apples, but all decided about the same time we’d rather watch other people do that!  And we did!  From there, we went caravan-style to the Barden Family Orchard.  We wandered through the farm shop to sample wares and crowd watch.  Then it was on to the Dame Farm & Orchard in Snake Den State Park.  Gorgeous flowers, veggies and fruit!  The last stop was Confreda Farms where those who wanted to had a snack before heading for home.  A really nice outing!

The September Meeting

The September meeting was well attended, and it seemed like a long time since the July Picnic.  The big change that was voted into place was to change the meeting time to 2 PM for the Potluck next month and also all meetings in the next year.  It always seems like the start of a new year in September – sort of like School.

2019 Summer Picnic

The date selected for the summer picnic this year was July 21st.  As luck would have it, predictions of heat index temperatures of 105o and high humidity (which did come to pass) drove us to push the event to it’s “rain date” on July 28th.  Although warm, the day was clear and breezy and quite pleasant!  Dottie Cece hosted again this year.  The food was great with burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon and all the et ceteras along with pot luck dishes and desserts galore.  The car games were run by Ken Trudel, Dennis Allsop and John Mennucci – lots of fun.  Ray Pagliarini brought a “youngster”, Jen, who was interested in buying his Model A.  She was getting double-clutch lessons from Ray and Angel through the afternoon and participated in the games, too.  Thanks to Sparky for donating so many car game prizes!  A really nice day!

June 9, 2019 – The Meeting

After the usual business meeting we had a very nice array of refreshments provided by Carol Trudel & Dot Pecchia. We also enjoyed a bit of a different type of program. Our Program Committee Chairpersons, Moe and Jan Rousseau enlisted their daughter Charlene Canual to speak to us.  Charlene is an advocate for Organ Donation.  Her interest in this field stems from being a recent liver donor to her cousin.  She has recovered well from the surgery and her cousin is feeling so much better since receiving a portion of Charlene’s liver.  Charlene is very active in her “new” advocacy role – participating in events such as 5K walks for organ donation awareness. She did a great job of presenting the need for organ donation, how to sign up to be a donor, communicating with friends and family related to your wishes to be a donor, and answered questions from the audience.

May 27, 2019 Memorial Day

Little Rhody Model A Club participated in two parades this Memorial Day!  The weather was exceptional. The line up in Wickford by Wilson’s Park was about 9:30 AM.  The crowd was larger than in many years, and lots of small children attended.  American flags were seen everywhere you looked!  We headed off to lunch after Wickford, and then lined up for the West Greenwich parade at 1 PM.  This parade was definitely a special American small town affair and well attended by the locals!  Between the two parades, twelve cars joined in the events.
