2018 - Memorial Day Parade

Several club members took part in parades this year.  There were three parades – in Exeter, North Kingstown (Wickford), and West Greenwich.  Since this is an election year, politicians were out in force!  The weather was fine, and the crowds exceeded previous years’ celebrations.  We are now looking forward to the summer season.

The 2018 Dust Off Tour

Bob Osborne arranged the tour to our destination - the New Bedford Whaling Museum.  Some of the members had never been to see this gem of a museum, though others had visited when they were kids or with their children or grandchildren in the past.  The group of us coming from the western and southern parts of Rhody started off at about 7:30 AM and reached the Jamestown Bridge at about 8:15.  There was some fog around at that time, and it was a nice thing to see it lift and the sunny skies take over as we went over the Hope Bridge on our way to the meet and greet at 10:30 AM at Exit 4 off interstate 195.  A total of seventeen joined up there and we headed over the Braga Bridge and onto 195 going to New Bedford. The Rousseaus were at the tail end of the convoy with a “slow moving” symbolic sign on their car as we traveled about 40 MPH on the highway.  We had special parking arranged by Moe in a lot across the street from the Museum.  Once inside, we went on our own to visit the galleries for about one and a half hours.  Moe & Jan led us through the streets and around New Bedford to a quaint off the beaten path restaurant called “ME & ED’s”. The food was good, our waitress was phenomenal, and once fed, we ambled our way back onto the highways and byways to return home.  The sunshine stayed with us and the mild temperatures assured us that spring had sprung!

March 11, 2018 Meeting

Our March meeting was well attended!  On the agenda was the July Picnic to be held at the Cece residence on July 15^th.  Also, we set the date for the Dust Off Tour for April 14^th.  The meet and greet will be at the Exit 4 Park and Ride Lot off route 195 in Somerset.  The refreshments were provided by Marie Cash and Ruth Andre – scrumptious!  Ken Trudel did the program for us – a slide presentation using photos taken by Bill Brum of MARCOM at the Hershey Car Show.  That event is three days and so huge that you would have a hard time getting to see everything available in that time.  Imagine 9,000 vendors!  The members enjoyed identifying years and makes of the cars shown.  Sparky entertained us with his mystical magic light bulb, too!

2017 Little Rhody Christmas Party

At 2 pm on December 2^nd , 35 members were able to attend the annual Christmas Party. It was at Richard’s Pub for the third year.  Susan Mosca was the prime mover getting prepared for a terrific party.  To quote her, she was after a “Jingle Bell Fairy Dust”  application to the festivities…She did all that and more!  She enlisted the assistance of her husband Domenic (her personal elf) to decorate the tables and distribute 9 foot long sparkly garlands for each person to wear like a necklace as they arrived. After the really nice dinner, she assisted Santa (our own dear Sparky) to distribute gifts in a North Pole Yankee Swap fashion to everybody.  The most popular item was a pair of “fine hand woven Irish linen towels” – they found their way around the room in a hurry!  Donations for Toys for Tots were collected for Richard Mowry to take to the Marines for distribution. The Herb Allen award was given to Moe and Janice Rousseau and the Carol Hathaway award was presented to John and Barbara Budziak.  It was a delightful afternoon!

The November Meeting 2017

The season is ebbing as we come closer to the very end of the Model A Year for most of us.  As has been usual in the last several years, folks brought food gifts for the food bank connected to the Mowry’s church.  After the business was done, our favorite Auctioneer, Sparky, did the honors for a lively brown bag auction.  The economy must be a bit better this year because items were selling to very determined bidders with a lot of energy!  Near the end of the auction, the pace picked up because (we think) the Patriots game was scheduled to start at about 8:30…hmmmm.  Our next and last big event for the year is the Christmas Party on December 2^nd at Richard’s Pub.

November 5, 2017 The Annual Chicken Run

There were 26 people able to make it to Wright’s Farm to what is affectionately referred to as the “Chicken Run”.  Folks from the south and west, including our friends the Barnes from North Stonington, Connecticut met at the West Greenwich Town Hall early on that Sunday.  That group traveled convoy-style to the Dunkin Donuts in Scituate, made a quick stop, and proceeded north on route 102 to the restaurant.  As usual, there were several other Model A Clubs there displaying their cars and enjoying the day. Other club members joined up at the farm for the usual family style chicken dinner at about 12:30 pm.  A trip to the gift shop is always a treat for the gals, and the guys went about their usual tours of the cars again and discussed Model A business.  Though cloudy, and cool we were thankful for the day remaining rain and wind free!
