The November Meeting 2017

The season is ebbing as we come closer to the very end of the Model A Year for most of us.  As has been usual in the last several years, folks brought food gifts for the food bank connected to the Mowry’s church.  After the business was done, our favorite Auctioneer, Sparky, did the honors for a lively brown bag auction.  The economy must be a bit better this year because items were selling to very determined bidders with a lot of energy!  Near the end of the auction, the pace picked up because (we think) the Patriots game was scheduled to start at about 8:30…hmmmm.  Our next and last big event for the year is the Christmas Party on December 2nd at Richard’s Pub.

It's Sparky! Our favorite auctioneer!

November 5, 2017 The Annual Chicken Run

There were 26 people able to make it to Wright’s Farm to what is affectionately referred to as the “Chicken Run”.  Folks from the south and west, including our friends the Barnes from North Stonington, Connecticut met at the West Greenwich Town Hall early on that Sunday.  That group traveled convoy-style to the Dunkin Donuts in Scituate, made a quick stop, and proceeded north on route 102 to the restaurant.  As usual, there were several other Model A Clubs there displaying their cars and enjoying the day. Other club members joined up at the farm for the usual family style chicken dinner at about 12:30 pm.  A trip to the gift shop is always a treat for the gals, and the guys went about their usual tours of the cars again and discussed Model A business.  Though cloudy, and cool we were thankful for the day remaining rain and wind free!

The October Potluck Supper

Our usual Potluck Dinner is held in March, and the motif is Saint Patrick’s Day with lots of green and white, shamrocks and Leprechauns.  But the weather was against us last March and the switch was made to October this year!  Sue Mosca coordinated the event and with her assistants dressed the hall for an Autumn Fest with fall colors.  A large variety of mouth watering dishes was served…YUM!  The meeting was followed by another assortment of delightful desserts…More YUM!  We look forward to our other usual fall activities like the Veteran’s Day Parade, the Wright’s Farm Chicken Run and the early December Christmas Party.

2017 New England Meet in North Conway

Several Little Rhody Model A Club members made it way up to New Hampshire for this year’s New England Meet.  The host club was the Lakes Region Model A Club.  We experienced warm and enjoyable weather this year.  The event was very well attended by clubs from all over New England and New York.  Approximately 180 cars participated in the tour and judging.  The tour was a long one – over 50 miles out with about 22 miles on the return.  Scenery was beautiful, and we got a peek at the beginnings of fall foliage in the mountains.  Charlie Howard won best in show once again with his number 9! Several of the ladies attended the fashion show and it was outstanding!  There were over 200 raffle items to bid on!  Centerpieces on the tables were awarded to those who courageously drove their A’s up Mount Washington.

2017 - The Mid-Summer Ice Cream Run

On August 20th, several of the members of Little Rhody embarked on a tour destined to end in ice cream consumption!  It was a perfect day – sunny and breezy.  We met up at the junction of routes 117 and 14 in western Coventry.  Bob Osborne led the group on the meandering trail with a short stop at the Ekonk Turkey Farm so we could meet up with Jeff and Deb Barnes.  Then, it was off along country roads to the Buttonwoods Farm in Griswold, Connecticut.  The ice cream was scrumptious, as usual!  Carl Carlson and his son were in attendance at an event for the first time.  Macie Wilson was celebrating her birthday that day.
